Target Language
The target language is the language into which the application resources
are translated. The Lingobit Localizer project must contain at least one
target language. If the project comprises a number of target languages,
the user can select the current language, which will be displayed in the
Translation Editor pane. The user can add or modify translations of the
selected language only.
Element translations, which were previously added to translation memory,
can be viewed in the Translation Memory
pane for all target languages simultaneously (see Translation
Memory for more information).
Lingobit Localizer supports a wide range of available languages. Available
languages list consists of primary country-neutral languages and their
sub-languages corresponding to specific locales. The user can select a
country-neutral language which is common for all its locales (for example,
German) or specify a certain sub-language (German - Germany or German
- Switzerland) for the localized project. Lingobit Localizer project may
include more than one available target sub-languages of the primary language.
Different sub-languages of the same primary language may vary in spelling,
word occurrences, and support various time, date and currency conventions.
For instance, there are considerable variations in French used in France
and Canada. Some sub-languages may even use a different character set,
as in Mainland Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese used in Taiwan (Traditional).
The original language and target language translations are displayed
in the Translation Editor pane.
The user can view translations for the selected target language only.
The selected target language can be seen in the column header and in the
Standard toolbar.
You can switch languages from the drop-down list in the Standard
toolbar. You can also select the appropriate language in the Target
language dialog. To open the Target
language dialog, click Languages…
on the Project menu.
Typically, the target languages are specified when the project is created
(see The New Project Wizard for details).
You can also add or remove languages during the work over the project.
To add or remove languages from the project, open the Languages
dialog box. To do that, select Add…
from the drop-down list in the Standard
toolbar, or select Languages…
on the Project menu, and then
click Add/Remove Languages… in
the Target Language dialog box.
Languages dialog displays Available
Languages and Target Languages
lists and Language Parameters
pane, containing information about the selected language.
To add a target language from the Available
Languages list in the left pane, double-click it or select it and
then click Add.
To remove a language, double-click it in the Target
Languages list, or select it and then click Remove.
If you add a language which was earlier removed from the project, all
its previously done translations will be preserved.
